Joshua Tree National Park is one of our nation’s treasures. Two hours from greater Los Angeles (3-5 in heavy Friday afternoon traffic), it is a memorable weekend escape that takes you away to what seems like a distant land. Campgrounds are primarily first-come-first-served in the park, therefore, heading out with a group without a reservation in hand could seem tenuous. Group campgrounds are a great solution as they will accommodate your whole caravan and must be reserved in advance, therefore ensuring you have a place to lay your head. These campsites are available to any group, large family, organization, etc.

Sheep’s Pass offers 6 reservable sites, each accommodating 30 – 50 people. There is a 7 person minimum. Currently, sites can be reserved for $50 per night or $350 for the week. Book well in advance as they fill up quickly, especially on weekends. During our stay with the Boy Scouts, we had 3 sites reserved. The other 3 sites were being enjoyed by other groups, consisting of young adults, a family group, and some older folks.

This location is within 15 minutes from the park entrance, so a quick trip to the visitor’s center or a jaunt into town in fairly easy should you need supplies, a Starbucks (gasp!), or even just a ‘night on the town’ or a trip to hear some tunes at Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown. Of course, the park is the big deal here, so enjoy ample hiking, stargazing, nature watching, bouldering, rock climbing, unplugging, and so much more!
